Hurry, Hurry! Entries for VFS annual student design competition closes February 1st

The latest Vertical Flight Society’s (VFS) Student Design Competition is challenging budding young Elon Musks to design a vertical lift air-taxi accessible for passengers, but the entry closing date of February 1st is almost up.

The VFS website states, (The competition) “meets specified requirements, provides a practical exercise for engineering students at colleges and universities around the world and promotes student interest in vertical flight technology.”

The successful annual event is this year sponsored by Bell and rotates each year between other sponsors including Airbus, Leonardo Helicopters, Boeing and Sikorsky.

Each of the winning teams from various categories is awarded a cash stipend (a total of USD12,500 is up for grabs), while each of the first-place winning teams are invited to the VFS Annual Forum and Technology Display to present the details of their designs. Members of the teams receive complimentary registration to the Forum, the vertical flight industry’s principal professional technical event, which promotes vertical flight technology advancement.
