Russian drone company Braeron has developed its first “Heavy Duty Cargo Drone” which will go on sale in July, reports communalnews.com. The company specializes in industrial unmanned craft.
The new drone has a capability of carrying over 645 kgs in weight, and can be used successfully in remote and rugged areas. Once approved this will be the first officially registered heavy UAV in the Russian Federation.
The company is marketing the craft at the transport, logistics, emergency and agro-culture industries. The drones will transport cargo, irrigate fields and even extinguish fires. The goal of the Braeron team is to introduce the use of unmanned technologies in areas where there are still high risks of threat to human life and the environment.
In many remote and rugged areas, drones are a safer and more cost-effective means of transport than manned aircraft, especially concerning wild fires and other environmental disasters. While, this is not the first cargo drone that has been registered in Russia, all predecessors can only carry light loads.
For example, last month drone food delivery was launched in Russia, but the craft is capable of only carrying a 1.1 kgs box. Also, there was an announcement of the flying squirrel drone in May. This craft can be used in search and rescue operations, provide communication and broadcast mass events, and has improved maneuverability that allows you to use the “flying squirrel” in bad weather.
However, such drones can only handle small freight and why Braeron decided to design a drone for the heavy loads. The maximum take-off weight of the Braeron drone is 600 kgs for agricultural purposes, and 640 kgs for logistics purposes. It can stay in the air for up to 2.5 hours and accelerate to 43 miles per hour.
The drone can fly in remote regions at any time of the day and cope with a wide range of weather conditions. The Company’s goal is to use the craft for multi-purposes from humanitarian goals and cargo deliveries to emergency services.
