According to a Linkedin post by Lena Miranda, CEO at Linköping Science Park in Sweden, at the start of October 2022 there will be three live demonstrations of drone services between Linköping and Norrköping, which will help pave the way for more complex urban an advanced air mobility operations. “The three demonstrations are part of ongoing projects addressing various challenges such as the technological, industrial and commercial development of unmanned aircraft and advanced air mobility,” writes Lena Miranda. The trial is part of the CORUS-XUAM research project.

“Among other things, we will demonstrate Last Mile Transportation in combination with proposed new regulations (U-Space), we will via Flygningen demonstrate real-time operations of detect and avoid (DAA) aboard the UMS Skeldar V-200 Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) RPAS, with direct encounters with intruders.

“Finally, through a unique intercity flight starting next to the military air base in Linköping and operating at Norrköping Airport, we will highlight the challenges of establishing a U-space service between two cities. Upon arrival at Norrköping Airport, visitors will also be greeted by the Katla Aero drone. An aerial corridor between the two cities will be activated at the time of the flight which is estimated to take 20-25 minutes. KATLA will fly the Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) over a distance of approximately 60 km. The overall objectives of the demonstration are to carry out a fast, safe and efficient freight transport while demonstrating the operational requirements for a well-functioning regional UAM system, crossing both controlled and uncontrolled airspace.
