United Arab Emirates

Country introduction

The United Arab Emirates has an ambitious vision to make 25% of all transport trips to be smart and driverless by 2030. The UAE’s Autonomous Aerial Taxi Services (AATS) is a key part of this strategy.

The UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has issued a framework of rules to govern UAM and Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has worked with the GCAA to develop the legislative and operational framework.

As part of the GCAA policy framework, drones, uncrewed and crewed passenger carrying vehicles will be introduced on defined, predetermined routes, segregated from existing aircraft. Air taxis will be quipped with sensors to integrate with the UTM/ATM system.
