Watch Video: “Ireland’s first test-bed for future mobility”

By Chris Stonor

Ireland’s first test-bed for future mobility is to be set-up at a special campus in Shannon. Called Future Mobility Campus Ireland (FMCI), the aim is to create the country’s first dedicated UAV testing and AAM Hub facility.

The YouTube blurb comments, “Future Mobility Campus Ireland (FMCI) was founded with the sole purpose of creating and delivering future mobility testbed facilities for stimulating research, development and innovation in the area of Autonomous Connected Electric Shared Vehicles (ACES), including Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) and a Vertiport for Advanced Aerial Mobility testing (AAM) in Ireland. The testbed is located in the Limerick-Shannon metropolitan area at Shannon Free Zone, Shannon, Co.Clare.”

And goes on, “The facility will be used to test and certify airworthiness for aircraft initially. It could be then used for regional operations as the service and UAVs become certified. Shannon has the potential to be the leading centre for system development, testing, training and certification with the potential to further grow Future Mobility ecosystems in Shannon.”

Companies funding the project include Cisco, Jaguar, Shannon Group, Land Rover, Mergon, Taoglas and Exida.
