Volocopter, manufacturer of the “world’s first purely electric flying multicopter” is set to display a full-scale prototype of its VoloPort at the ITS World Congress in Singapore, next month, the company said in a LinkedIn post. UK-based vertiport owner and operator Skyports will build the facility. A VoloPort is a proposed physical landing pad for eVTOL (electric take-off and landing) vehicles.
The German company promises “several tours of the VoloPort and different events surrounding the topic of urban air mobility, infrastructure, and regulation” with more details to follow.
Volocopter added that the structure will:
- Enable real-life testing of the full customer journey to perfect the passenger experience;
- Showcase planned customer services, including pre-flight checks, passenger lounges and boarding procedures;
- Allow practical testing of ground operations and services, including battery swaps and charging, maintenance, safety and security.
“VoloPorts are the only physical infrastructure required for air taxis to commence operations in cities in the near future,” said the company. “They are designed to provide passengers with a seamless air taxi experience that is safe, secure, and relaxing. VoloPorts will merge with their surroundings, allowing passengers and passers-by to see through the whole structure.”
The 26th ITS World Congress will take place in Singapore, between 21-25 October.
