A real-time simulation to assess airspace interoperability in vertiport networks recently took place at Leonardo’s simulation facilities in Italy.
Part of the EUREKA SESAR3 Fast Track project, the exercise brought together a team of over 15 professionals from Italian air navigation services provider ENAV as well as Leonardo, D-Flight, NAIS, Techno Sky, and UrbanV.
The project is coordinated by Eurocontrol and aims to enable safe and efficient urban air mobility integration into all types of airspace, with a focus on vertiport operations. Specifically, EUREKA is developing tailored requirements for approach, departure and en-route procedures to and from vertiports. It is also working on a comprehensive vertiport ecosystem by implementing and evaluating vertiport collaborative traffic and vertiport network flow, capacity and operational management systems.
In a LinkedIn post, ENAV ATM and U-space researcher Giovanni Riccardi said the simulation was successful.
