Jeju Island “will proceed with vertiport design and implementation work this year”

Korea’s Jeju News reports that detailed planning has started on the first of three vertiports planned for the island.

“Jeju Island will proceed with the basic design and implementation design of the vertiport this year,” said the report. “The province selected Jeju International Airport, Jungmun Tourist Complex, and Seongsanpo Port as the three candidate sites. Among them, the Seongsan Port parking lot site near Seongsanpo Port will start basic and detailed design in the second half of the year. Seongsan Vertiport, which is set against the backdrop of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, has emerged as a symbol of tourism-type UAM services.

“The vertiport at Jeju International Airport will be built on the airport site and will serve as the main hub with a large take-off and landing pad, terminal, and traffic management center. The vertiport of the Jungmun Tourist Complex will be created as a premium UAM service base linked to the international tourism, recreation, and MICE industries.

“Previously, the province was selected for the ‘UAM Regional Pilot Project’ and secured 1 billion won in government funds. The province will introduce advanced technology for safe operation along with the creation of vertiports. It designs the optimal flight path with a 3D high-precision electronic map and virtual simulation that reflects the terrain and obstacles around the vertiport in real time.

In September 2025 Skyports Infrastructure was appointed as the lead vertiport developer for the island’s vertiport network.
