Tampa International Airport CEO “proposes air taxi hub”

Tampa International Airport CEO Michael Stephens has presented a proposed air mobility hub to Tampa City Council. The initiative would link airport travellers to a multimodal transportation centre, with air taxis and trains part of the long-term vision, Fox News reported yesterday (May 21).

According to the article, travellers would hop on the existing Sky Connect train at the airport, which would shuttle them directly to the new mobility centre where they could board an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft or a train or automated people mover.

While this is just a vision at the moment, Fox News said City council members expressed strong support for the idea. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has reportedly selected a viable site for the proposed hub. Stephens said FDOT would have to create connecting infrastructure and on-the-ground facilities.
