China’s Chery “to start eVTOL certification process in October this year”

China’s CNEVPost reports that Chery will launch its first eVTOL in October this year.

“Wang Junjie, director of Chery’s flying car laboratory, revealed the plan at a forum held today in the southwestern city of Chongqing, saying that Chery will begin the certification process for the eVTOL at that time,” according to the report. “According to Wang, 70-80 percent of the components in the eVTOL supply chain overlap with the new energy -vehicle (NEV) industry, particularly in areas such as motors, electric control systems, and battery systems.”

In October 2024, Chery announced it had built a prototype eVTOL. “The futuristic vehicle, without a steering wheel or accelerator, has already completed a successful test flight distance of 80 kilometers,” said the report. “It boasts dual modes for both road driving and aerial travel, allowing seamless transitions between land and air, a move Chery claimed could help reduce traffic congestion in cities.”
