Japan’s aviation regulator accepts Archer Aviation’s Midnight eVTOL certification application

In an X post, Nikhil Goel, Chief Commercial Officer at Archer Aviation, has reported  that Japan’s civil aviation authority, JCAB, “accepted our type certificate application to validate the Midnight aircraft based on FAA certification, a major step toward bringing air taxis to Tokyo, Osaka, and throughout the country with our partners at JAL and Sumitomo Corp.

According to a Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism press release (translated by google) “This is the fifth application for type certification as a flying car. The ministry will continue to appropriately review the aircraft’s safety and environmental compliance as its development progresses.”

Previous applications have comprised SD-05 by SkyDrive (accepted on October 29, 20210; Joby S4 by Joby Aviation (accepted on October 18, 2022),  VC2-1 by Volocopter (accepted on February 21, 2023) and  VX4 by (accepted on March 29, 2023).
