Pratt & Whitney PT6 to power Horizon Aircraft hybrid Cavorite X7

Horizon Aircraft has chosen the  Pratt & Whitney Canada’s PT6A engine for the initial version of its hybrid vertical takeoff aircraft, Cavorite X7. “The aircraft can operate with up to 30% less hydrocarbon emissions than conventional aircraft conducting similar operations,” said the company website. “As battery technologies evolve, the aircraft can become fully electric.”

The Cavorite X7 can carry up to seven passengers and travel up to 800 km and Horizon plans to have certified aircraft in production before 2030. Horizon is building the aircraft for customers including emergency services and defence companies, as well as commercial operators. The engine will be able to recharge the battery array en route within minutes, according to the company.
