Newswire Sri Lanka reports today (January 13) that Sri Lanka is working on an electric vertical takeoff and landing eVTOL aircraft, which will be designed, developed and manufactured entirely within the country.
In a social media post, CodeGen International CEO Dr. Harsha Subasinghe said the project team is currently fine-tuning and validating the platform with a 100 kg payload, testing each system to ensure safety before human carriage.
According to Newswire, the intention is for the aircraft to operate fully autonomously and be capable of recharging in under 45 minutes.
“The aircraft promises affordable air mobility, with projected flying costs under Rs. 40 per kilometre per person (approximately USD 0.13/km), making aerial transport practical rather than a luxury,” Newswire reports Dr Subasinghe as saying.
