BETA Technologies reports successful results in NIAR battery pack drop test

BETA Technologies reports that a 50ft drop test carried out in partnership with the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has “proved the safety of its battery pack which showed no significant damage at the cell or pack level.”

The NIAR says the test provides data that will validate its simulation model and refine it for future safety testing for the industry. “This successful, full-scale 50-ft, Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) battery drop test that its Advanced Virtual Engineering and Test Lab (AVET) has conducted was sponsored by the Federal Aviation Administration, and was a collaborative effort between NIAR AVET, the FAA and BETA Technologies.”

The NIAR reports further that it is “part of an ongoing research program on the Integrated Crashworthiness Safety approach of future EVTOL aircraft.”
