Electra outlines market potential of its EL9 Ultra Short hybrid electric airliner

Today, Electra has published the first-ever Market Outlook for what it describes as “Direct Aviation”.

“Direct Aviation means flying from where people are to where they want to go. It enables people to avoid long drives or connections at crowded airport hubs,” says the company.  “It creates a mesh network of access points, freeing travellers from the tyranny of gridlock and airport chokepoints.”

The concept revolves around the capability of its nine-seat EL9 Ultra Short hybrid electric airliner which can take off and land on ultra short runways on the rooftop of buildings or municipal airports.

“The findings are clear: millions of trips happen every day across distances that are too long to drive efficiently and poorly served by traditional aviation. The analysis shows:

35 million daily passenger trips by car across distances of 50 to 500 miles; 1.6 trillion passenger-miles annually; more than 6,000 routes with over 1,000 travellers per day.”
