Korea Airports Corporation to build UAM test hub

Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), in partnership with the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), has announced the construction of a dedicated urban air mobility (UAM) vertiport test hub at KINTEX in Goyang city, northwest of Seoul.

Targeting completion by 2027, the project is part of the Republic of Korea’s K-UAM Grand Challenge, led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

KARI brings expertise in UAM flight validation, FATO (final approach and takeoff area) and terminal construction to the collaboration while KAC will provide terminal facilities, vertiport operations and management capabilities.

KAC said on its social media channels that it plans to build a demonstration environment for passenger processing and boarding tailored to UAM. The test site will demonstrate an end-to-end process at vertiports including booking, security screening, check-in, baggage handling, ID checks and boarding.
