The ePlane Company, an IIT Madras-incubated aerospace startup, has unveiled a full-scale version of its e200X (PT-01) electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft prototype. The launch took place at the company’s 60,000 sq. ft. production facility in Chennai.
“We proved the aerodynamics, moulded our composites from scratch, and locked in our proprietary flight transition algorithms,” said the company in an X post. “What you are looking at today is the result of that heavy lifting: a 2,200 kg vehicle built around an advanced carbon fiber airframe, an 800V high-voltage EV powertrain, NVIDIA IGX Thor compute, and HENSOLDT avionics.”
Initial missions will be focused on air ambulance roles, followed by airport shuttles.
The company reports the next stage of its development is to start structured ground testing. The aircraft is designed to carry one pilot and up to two passengers, or 200 kg of cargo, with an operational range of 110 km.
