Altovolo has unveiled its Sigma hybrid-electric eVTOL aircraft designed for the private market.
“Combining electric motors with a fuel-based generator, the Sigma achieves an impressive range of 510 miles, significantly surpassing the typical 20–160 miles of most eVTOLs,” said a Linkedin post from partner Embention. “With a cruising speed of 220 mph, it stands among the fastest eVTOLs in development. The three-seater aircraft is tailored for “jet-setters” seeking efficient travel between urban locations, rooftops, or yachts. Its compact size, measuring 15.7 feet in width, allows it to fit in spaces as small as a double garage. Weighing 2,160 pounds with passengers, the Sigma boasts a 1,608-horsepower powertrain equipped with backup systems to ensure continued flight even if one jet fails .
“Noise reduction is a key feature, with the Sigma producing 80% less noise than traditional helicopters, making it suitable for residential areas. Its sleek design and advanced capabilities position it as a potential rival to conventional helicopters in the personal aviation market.
“One of the key features of the Sigma’s advanced capabilities is its integration with the Veronte Autopilot system, which has been designed in compliance with aviation certification standards such as DO-178C, DO-254 and DO-160G. The Veronte Autopilot is a miniaturized, high-reliability avionics system designed for advanced control of autonomous vehicles. This system enables the Sigma to perform missions without human interaction.”
