In a Linkedin post, China’s AutoFlight reports it has been selected for the inaugural round of Hong Kong’s “Regulatory Sandbox X” – a flagship initiative to advance the city’s low-altitude economy and explore innovative applications.
Two of four projects will use AutoFlight’s heavy-lift eVTOL for demonstration flights, working with local partners to develop low-altitude routes and operations across the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
Trial cargo flights are due to start very soon.
According to a May 2026 report from the South China Morning Post: “Trial flights for Hong Kong’s first unmanned two-tonne electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft could take place within the next six months, initially to transport heavy construction materials to remote sites in the New Territories. Infrastructure consultancy AECOM said once aviation safety for cargo logistics was proved, the potential next step was ecotourism, providing an alternative sustainable option for Victoria Harbour aerial sightseeing tours.”
The Hong Kon Government’s Project Facilitation Task Force reports that Autoflight will work with Chun Wo Construction and Engineering Co. Ltd under a programme led by AECOM Asia Company Limited for the first project and with Greater Bay Area Low Altitude Economy Alliance, China Mobile Hong Kong Company Limited and Esri China (Hong Kong) Limited in a second project led by China Travel Tours Transportation Services H.K. Ltd.
