Florida Polytechnic University buys Jetson ONE personal eVTOL for law enforcement, research

Jetson Inc has announced that Florida Polytechnic University has selected the Jetson ONE as what the University describes as the world’s first electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft intended for integration into law-enforcement operations.

The aircraft is registered with the on point N911FP registration (November -911- Florida Polytechnic) and dubbed ‘Astro’, referencing the iconic dog from the classic cartoon ‘The Jetsons’. The Jetson ONE will support the University’s exploration of how advanced air mobility can contribute to public safety, emergency response, education and applied aerospace research.

This first Law Enforcement / First Responder delivery represents an important expansion of the Jetson ONE beyond the recreational personal flight use case, said the company in a press release. It demonstrates how compact electric aircraft support professional and public-service applications.

Florida Polytechnic University required Part91 approval from the Federal Aviation Administration to integrate ‘Astro’ in its operations. The Jetson ONE itself, a PART103 recreational platform, has already been validated May 2025 with plenty of empty weight allowance to add mission critical equipment and the police light set, said Jetson.  The University has identified potential uses that include monitoring the campus and surrounding areas, reaching locations that are difficult to access using conventional vehicles and rapidly delivering emergency supplies when required.

“This is an important milestone in the execution of our strategic plan and in the broader public acceptance of personal electric aviation,” said Stéphan D’haene, Chief Executive Officer of Jetson Inc. “Our ambitions have always extended beyond recreational flying. With the Jetson ONE now flying on four continents and with more than 125 pilots trained, we are demonstrating that personal eVTOL technology is moving from an extraordinary idea into practical, real-world use.”

“The decision by Florida Polytechnic University to introduce Jetson ONE as a platform for public safety, research and education is a powerful validation of that progress. It brings together operational deployment, institutional acceptance and the development of future aviation talent. These are exactly the foundations required to establish an entirely new category of personal aviation.”

The Florida Polytechnic University Police Department intends to explore how their ‘Astro’ could enhance situational awareness, provide access to areas that are difficult to reach with conventional vehicles and support the rapid delivery of emergency supplies. The University also plans to collaborate with regional law-enforcement agencies on potential emergency-response and public-safety operations. Beyond its potential public-safety role, ‘Astro’ will serve as a hands-on learning and research platform for students and faculty at Florida Polytechnic University. The University introduced a new aerospace engineering degree in autumn 2026, providing students with an opportunity to study emerging flight technology in an operational campus environment.
