German transport ministry “contemplating EUR150 million investment in Volocopter” – press reports

Frankfurter Allgemeine reports: “According to a report by “Spiegel”, Transport Minister Wissing (FDP) now wants to invest 150 million euros in the Volocopter company. The Ministry of Transport would pay the money together with the Free State of Bavaria, but the federal government would have to finance it in advance.”

According to the newspaper:

“This funding amount is controversial: auditors from the Frankfurt company PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) are said to have “clearly warned” Wissing about it, according to “Spiegel” information. A secret report is said to have spoken of a “high-risk investment,” according to the media report. The state of Baden-Württemberg had already rejected funding last year because of this risk.”

The news source says the company from Bruchsal is facing several challenges: “On the one hand, the fascination with air taxis may be higher than the actual economic success, and the development costs and energy requirements for the Volocopters are also high. This means that 150 million euros of tax money could flow into a company whose future is uncertain.”
